Export packing for stainless steel pipe is a specification, not a slogan. Decide what must survive handling, what must still be readable at receipt, which documents travel with the goods, and which Incoterms rule allocates the risk. “Seaworthy” and “export standard” do not answer those questions. Write them into the enquiry before the mill cuts the order.

This site does not publish Junda’s case design, bundle mass, desiccant quantity or default delivery term. Those items are confirmed when you request a quote. The lists below are the decisions a buyer can make without inventing a mill’s practice.

What is the packing trying to protect?

Name the damage you are trying to prevent. Thin-wall tube ovalises under strap pressure. Polished or pickled surfaces stain when wet packing stays in contact with the steel. Long lengths bend if the support spacing is wrong. Machined ends and grooves dent when bundles strike each other. U-tubes need the bend protected as well as the legs. A rectangular heat-transfer profile can be crushed by a strap that would be harmless on heavy pipe.

State the product form, the surface condition and the maximum piece length in the same sentence as the packing. A method that is reasonable for 6 m random lengths of schedule pipe can be the wrong method for a thin-wall tube or an extra-long tube. If the destination crane, container or site door limits the bundle mass or length, write the limit as a number. Do not leave it as “suitable for container loading” unless you have defined the container and the lifting method.

Also state whether the ends must remain closed until receipt, and who may remove the protection. Caps and plugs keep debris and moisture out of the bore. They are useless if they fall off in the first handling or if they are made of a material that the receiving inspector must reject. Say whether caps are required, whether they must be refittable, and whether a missing cap is a cause to hold the bundle.

Which marking has to survive the trip?

Marking is part of traceability, not decoration. The certificate guide asks you to connect the order line, the heat, the inspection record, the piece or bundle label and the packing list. Packing is where that chain either stays readable or disappears.

Agree, at least:

  • The identity on each piece or each bundle: grade, heat or lot, size and the order line.
  • Whether the mark is stamped, stencilled, labelled or a combination, and which of those the product standard actually allows.
  • The language and units on the label. A mark that only the mill can decode does not help a receiving inspector.
  • What happens when a label is lost. Hold the bundle, or accept a documented re-identification.
  • The packing-list fields: piece count or length, size, heat allocation, net mass and the case or bundle number.

A packing list that restates the order quantity, without heat allocations, does not reconcile a mixed shipment. Ask for the allocation before shipment, not after a short receipt.

When does wood packaging need a phytosanitary rule?

ISPM 15 describes phytosanitary measures that reduce the risk of introducing quarantine pests with wood packaging material made from raw wood, including dunnage. The published scope excludes wood processed so that it is free from pests. Plywood is the example given in that scope. The standard is about plant health. It does not rate a case for stacking strength, corrosion protection or fitness for a polished surface.

Use ISPM 15 as a question, not as a description of Junda shipments:

Packing material you might specifyQuestion to close
Solid wood cases, pallets or dunnageDoes the destination require ISPM 15 treatment and the recognised mark, and who is responsible for a compliant mark?
Plywood or other processed woodConfirm whether it is outside ISPM 15 for that destination, and specify strength separately.
Steel stillages or returnable framesConfirm ownership, return freight and how the pipe is isolated from the steel contact faces.
Plastic wrapping or capsConfirm that the wrap does not trap water against the surface for the storage time you expect.

If you do not know the destination rule, say so and ask the forwarder. Do not accept a mill statement of “fumigated” without the mark, the treatment and the responsible authority that ISPM 15 requires for wood that is in scope. And do not demand an ISPM 15 mark on packaging the standard does not cover.

What should the paperwork say about delivery?

Incoterms 2020 are the International Chamber of Commerce rules that define obligations, risk transfer and cost allocation between seller and buyer. They do not specify grade, dimensions, inspection, packing quality or title in every legal system. A rule without a named place is incomplete. “FOB” with no port, or “CIF” with no destination, is not an agreed delivery term.

Write three separate lines:

  1. The Incoterms rule and the edition, for example the 2020 edition if that is what both parties intend.
  2. The named place or port exactly as the rule requires.
  3. What the price includes beyond the rule: export packing, inspection attendance, certificates, fumigation where required, and insurance only if the chosen rule or the contract puts insurance on a named party.

Junda’s contact and quotation path does not publish a default rule. Ask for the rule in the offer and check that the same rule appears on the proforma, the invoice and the shipping instructions. A change from works collection to a delivered port changes both price and the moment you should inspect. The mill-qualification guide treats an unnamed delivery term as an open cell, not as a minor commercial detail.

Also separate origin documents from quality documents. A certificate of origin, a packing declaration or a customs description does not prove chemical analysis. The material certificate still has to match the heat in the case.

How do you check a shipment without unpacking everything?

Agree a receipt sequence that matches the risk. For heavy seamless pipe, identification and a dimensional spot check may be enough before the bundles are stored. For thin wall, bright surface or tight-tolerance tube, the packing method and the first pieces out of the case are part of the inspection. Write whether the inspector may open every case, a stated sample, or only cases with broken seals.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Match the packing list to the case or bundle numbers before lifting.
  2. Photograph damaged cases before the pieces are separated.
  3. Read the piece or bundle mark and compare it with the heat allocation.
  4. Check ends, straightness and the surface condition you specified, on the sample you agreed.
  5. Only then sign a receipt that distinguishes “received in apparent case condition” from “accepted to the specification”.

Signing for piece count is not acceptance of grade or of hidden damage. Say that on the receipt form if your contract would otherwise treat a signature as full acceptance.

What does Junda publish that is relevant?

Junda publishes the company identity, the Songyang, Wenzhou and Dubai offices, the sales address sales@jundapipe.com, and the request path on the contact page. It publishes manufacturing and inspection capability, not a packing drawing. The RFQ checklist already asks the enquiry to name destination and packing constraints. Use that line. Replace it with numbers: maximum bundle mass, maximum length, end protection, mark content, wood-packaging rule if any, and the Incoterms rule with its named place.

An illustrative request, not a Junda offer, looks like this:

Pack each heat separately. Close both ends. Identify each bundle with grade, heat, size, order line and bundle number. State case or bundle mass and length. Propose the packing method for 6 m lengths of 25 mm OD tube with a pickled surface, and state any limit you need the buyer to accept. Delivery rule to be Incoterms 2020, named place to be confirmed before order. Do not describe the packing only as seaworthy.

Send that with the technical enquiry. Packing added after production often means extra handling of finished pipe, which is the opposite of what the packing was meant to protect.

Questions buyers ask

Does Junda publish a standard export packing method?

No. The site does not publish case design, bundle mass, desiccant or a default delivery term. End protection, marking, packing-list identity and the delivery rule are confirmed in the quotation.

Does seaworthy packing satisfy ISPM 15?

Not as a phrase. ISPM 15 is a phytosanitary standard for wood packaging material made from raw wood, including dunnage, and its published scope excludes wood processed so that it is free from pests, with plywood given as an example. Ask whether the destination requires it and who supplies a compliant mark. It does not define corrosion protection or stacking strength.

Do Incoterms rules set pipe quality or inspection?

No. Incoterms 2020 allocate costs, risk and stated obligations between buyer and seller. They do not choose the grade, the tests or the packing method. Name the rule, the edition and the named place, and put quality requirements in the technical line.
