Who is this mill certificate checklist for?

Use this EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate checklist to match a pipe certificate to the order, verify heat traceability, chemistry, mechanical properties, heat treatment and NDT, and record any discrepancy before release. It is a buyer review aid, not a substitute for a qualified inspector or 3.2 certification.

Review the certificate

Use the checklist with the purchase order, the ordered standard and the physical pipe marking.

The checklist is in the next section. It is a review aid, not a certificate validator.

Certificate review checklist

Work through the certificate against the purchase order and the ordered standard. This checklist does not store or submit your entries.

Certificate identity and order match
Heat and product traceability
Mechanical and corrosion testing
Release and discrepancy control

Review the standard, not just the certificate

The certificate can be internally consistent and still not meet the order if the standard edition, test frequency, acceptance criteria or inspection scope is wrong. Check the purchase specification first, then the certificate.

3.1 is not 3.2

An EN 10204 3.1 certificate is validated by an inspection representative independent of the manufacturing department. A 3.2 certificate adds validation by an independent third party or an inspection representative independent of the manufacturer. Confirm which one the project requires before shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2?

An EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate is issued by the manufacturer and validated by an inspection representative independent of the manufacturing department. A 3.2 certificate is issued by a manufacturer and validated by an inspection representative independent of the manufacturer, or by an independent third party. The project specification decides which type is required; do not substitute 3.1 for 3.2 without written approval.

Which items should I check on a pipe mill test certificate?

Check the certificate type and issuer, purchase order and item references, standard and grade, heat number, heat analysis, product analysis where required, tensile and yield strength, elongation, impact and hardness results, heat treatment, NDT method and result, dimensions, quantity and signatures. Confirm that each test is required by the ordered specification and that acceptance limits match its edition.

Does an EN 10204 3.1 certificate prove the pipe is suitable?

No. It documents that the supplied product was inspected and tested against the stated requirements. It does not by itself prove fitness for a particular process, corrosion duty or pressure design. Review the scope, the standard edition, the test frequency, the heat traceability and the project specification, and keep any deviations in the enquiry record before purchase.

Need the project reviewed?
