Super Duplex Tubing: What to Specify for S32750
Prepare an S32750 super duplex tubing enquiry with the correct product standard, wall basis, service conditions and inspection requirements.
Compare standard duplex 2205 with super duplex 2507 using traceable material references, and learn how to handle an ambiguous catalogue designation.

Compare 2205 and 2507 as different material candidates with distinct design and corrosion requirements. IMOA identifies 2205/S32205 as a standard duplex grade and 2507/S32750 as a super duplex grade. A catalogue’s “super duplex” category heading cannot establish the identity of every product placed beneath it. Material classification
Junda’s catalogue contains entries named S22053 and S32750. Catalogue source The S22053 label should be confirmed in writing; it must not be silently changed to S32205 or treated as a verified 2205 designation.
IMOA describes duplex stainless steel as having austenite and ferrite in its microstructure. It separates lean, standard, super and hyper duplex groups rather than treating duplex as one material.
| Reference candidate | IMOA classification | Review priority |
|---|---|---|
| 2205 / S32205 | Standard duplex | Confirm suitability for the actual corrosion and mechanical duty |
| 2507 / S32750 | Super duplex | Establish whether the service requires the more highly alloyed candidate |
| A catalogue name without confirmed mapping | Unresolved designation | Obtain the applicable standard and material certificate basis first |
This table supports selection discussion. It is not a grade substitution table or an order-specific chemistry specification.
The higher-alloy candidate may be relevant to more demanding corrosion exposure, but a purchasing decision needs more than a family label. Compare the process chemistry, temperature, fabrication requirements, inspection, availability for the required form and the project’s design approval.
Do not calculate a thinner wall from a general statement about duplex strength. Wall selection belongs to the applicable design code and includes geometry, temperature, manufacturing tolerances and other design inputs. A grade comparison does not replace that calculation.
Temperature also deserves a separate check. ASTM A790/A790M-24 warns in its scope that these steels are susceptible to embrittlement during prolonged elevated-temperature exposure. Neither grade should be selected for a hot service solely from its corrosion reputation.
Keep the original label in the enquiry and ask for the standard system, exact designation, product specification, edition and proposed certificate wording. Compare the response with the project requirement. If the supplier proposes a different material, record it as an alternative requiring approval.
For example, a line that says “S22053 duplex” should remain unresolved until the supplier supplies evidence of what that name means in the offer. Changing one digit in a spreadsheet can conceal the problem from inspection and purchasing staff.
Use the S22053 catalogue entry to identify the product being discussed and the S32750 entry for the separate super duplex enquiry. Ask for confirmation of designation, dimensions, condition and tests through the contact page.
For tube orders, also resolve the pipe-versus-tubing specification. Compare prices only after both offers describe known materials against a common purchase basis.
