Super Duplex Tubing: What to Specify for S32750
Prepare an S32750 super duplex tubing enquiry with the correct product standard, wall basis, service conditions and inspection requirements.
Compare high-alloy austenitic and super duplex pipe by service evidence, fabrication and inspection instead of ranking them by alloy name alone.

Super austenitic and super duplex stainless steels are different material families, and neither is a universal answer to corrosive service. Compare the actual chemistry and temperature of the process, fabrication requirements, design basis and inspection evidence. A similar corrosion screening value does not make the products interchangeable.
IMOA’s austenitic overview discusses high-performance grades, including 6% molybdenum alloys. Its duplex overview describes the austenite-ferrite structure and identifies super duplex grades such as S32750. These references support a family-level comparison, not approval for a particular plant.
| Review topic | High-alloy austenitic candidate | Super duplex candidate |
|---|---|---|
| Material identity | Confirm the exact grade; “super austenitic” is insufficient | Confirm the exact duplex grade and product form |
| Corrosion evidence | Match alloy data to fluid, concentration and temperature | Apply the same service basis and include fabrication condition |
| Mechanical design | Use approved material values under the governing code | Review approved values without assuming an automatic wall reduction |
| Fabrication | Establish the qualified joining and finishing requirements | Establish joining requirements and relevant metallurgical controls |
| Inspection | Specify the product and project examinations | Include any required checks for detrimental phases with valid sampling |
The table is a decision aid. It contains no generic pressure rating, wall saving or corrosion-life claim.
For a heat exchanger, describe both sides of the wall. A cooling medium on one side and a process stream on the other can impose different constraints. Record startup, cleaning, shutdown and stagnant conditions as well as normal operation.
For a pipeline, note crevices, deposits, dissimilar connections and planned maintenance. If one candidate’s supporting data describe clean laboratory conditions and the other’s describe an operating plant, label that difference before drawing a conclusion.
Chemistry provides a starting point. The PREN example shows how to perform one bounded comparison. It does not include every variable that influences corrosion or fabrication outcomes.
For duplex material, ASTM A923-25 explains why chemical and mechanical compliance does not necessarily indicate the absence of detrimental phases. That makes thermal history and any required metallurgical examination part of the evidence review, rather than an optional assumption hidden behind a grade name.
Issue one service description and two clearly separated technical line items. Keep dimensions, quantity, inspection and delivery basis comparable, while allowing each material’s necessary fabrication requirements to remain visible. Request an explicit deviation list.
Junda’s catalogue includes 904L, 254SMo and S32750. Catalogue source Their presence in the catalogue does not establish identical availability or approval for the same service.
Send the comparison basis through the contact page. Have the responsible engineer close the material decision using the service evidence and applicable code before procurement treats the alternatives as interchangeable.
Links to standards bodies and material producers are provided for reference. Confirm the applicable edition, project requirements and acceptance documents for each order.
